Lesson 1: The Real Firawn
Ruled in Misr — north-east of what is known today as Egypt — 1720–1570 BC.
Historical background
The Real Firawn
Firawn ruled in Misr — north-east of what is known today as Egypt — between 1720–1570 BC (approximately two centuries).
Yaqub settled in this region. His son Yusuf was taken to Misr, and eventually his entire family moved there. They became known as Bani-Israel — his brothers and their offspring. They remained in Misr for several generations, until Firawn came to power over the region.
Firawn divided the people into factions and groups, one of which was Bani-Israel.
He particularly oppressed Bani-Israel because they were upon Tawheed. He also feared that from among them would come a man who would be the cause of the end of his rule and nation.
This forms the background to the events that follow in the story.
The people under Firawn were given roles within society, but Bani-Israel were assigned the most lowly and difficult labour.
